The Neighbourhood Concept

In 2009, Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas embarked on its maiden journey. It was the first cruise ship to feature the “Neighbourhood” concept, and this innovative layout was an immediate success with cruisers. With the neighbourhood concept, each area of the ship has its own distinct ambiance, tone and facilities. Those of you who have visited Disney World know that the Magic Kingdom is broken into regions like Adventureland and Tomorrowland. The neighbourhood blueprint is kind of like that. In one section of Oasis of the Seas, you will find Central ParkSM, which has tropical gardens and quiet reading spots, while on the other side of the ship, you will find an area named the Boardwalk, which features a carousel and rock-climbing wall. Other neighbourhoods include the Entertainment Place, Youth Zone, Royal Promenade and Pools and Sports Deck. With the neighbourhood concept, you feel as if you are enjoying all a floating city has to offer.

Never a Dull Moment

In many respects, the Oasis of the Seas is just like a floating theme park. The Pools and Sports deck features everything from surf parks and zip wires to basketball and Ping-Pong courts. There is even a solarium. In the Boardwalk neighbourhood, you will find a state-of-the-art spa, fitness centre and a host of shopping hotspots. Families, honeymooners and solo cruisers will find more activities at their disposal than they ever thought possible. If you are looking for a cruise line that puts the ooh back in cruising, Royal Caribbean is your answer.

You Like the Nightlife, You Like to Boogie

When it comes to evening entertainment on the Oasis of the Seas, you have countless options. The entertainment plaza is packed with pubs, clubs and lounges. Highlights include Blaze, a high-octane nightclub, and the Rising Tide Bar, which is billed as the first levitating bar at sea. Just do not knock down too many fruity cocktails, when a bar is ascending and descending over three decks, you are bound to lose those sea legs.
