Who doesn’t love a dose of sun, sea and sand? And with the autumn weather beginning to set in thoughts of a beach holiday on the continent become ever-more appealing.
Crystal clear waters, vast stretches of white sand and a poolside cocktail are the perfect antidote to the impending darkness that are inevitably headed Britain’s way. However, when it comes to heading off on a beach holiday ‘en famille’, things may look a little different.
Think sandcastles and lilos rather than uninterrupted hours of soaking up the sun. All thoughts of negotiating a few rock faces to get to that tourist-free cove that locals are always talking about are also out of the window. With the little ones in tow, health and safety, not matter how dull the subject, is a holiday priority – no wonder family travel insurance is high up on the pre-holiday to do list.
Thankfully there are a number of family-friendly beach resorts where you can indulge in all the fun of the seaside without having to leave the kids behind with granny and grandpa. Here are just a few.
Cala Luna, Sardinia
This picture postcard beach resort on the North West coast of Sardinia boasts turquoise waters. Cala Luna can be accessed from one of the boats leaving Cala Gonone between 9am and 5pm and while mum and dad get some much needed R & R the kids can explore the nearby caves or go snorkelling.
Playa de Poo, Asturias
If nothing else the kids will be amused by the name of this secluded beach. This stunning lagoon is perfect for a spot of kiddie paddling with its calm and shallow waters. Lifeguards are also on duty here during peak season, giving parents added peace of mind. There are also two eateries in the area; perfect for a spot of refuelling.
Voutoumi Beach, Antipaxos
Located on the small island of Antipaxos, Voutoumi’s secluded location makes it the perfect spot to truly get away from it all. Voutoumi also boasts shallow waters for the little ones to frolic in, while a Taverna behind the beach is the perfect spot to appease the kids once their tummies start rumbling.
