BENIDORM; A Great Place for a Getaway

Business had become very quiet and I was feeling a little sorry for myself. I wondered what I could to pep myself up, perhaps a holiday would do the trick so I got onto the internet. I wanted a two-week break somewhere sunny, by the sea and more importantly cheap as I didn’t have a massive budget to play with. After a couple of days on the computer I decided on Benidorm in good old Spain. The flights were easy to book online with a budget airline as was the hotel, a 2 star family run establishment not far from the beach. Benidorm is fantastic for accommodation and you can always find plenty of cheap all inclusive hotels in Benidorm hotel. With a week to go to departure everything was in place for my perfect break.

I arrived at Valencia airport and travelled to “Beni” by bus and was greeted warmly by the hotel owners and shown to my room, The accommodation was basic yet provided everything I needed, a good sized clean bed, shower, tea making facilities and a small balcony from which I could do some people watching. Although available, breakfast was not included so I would take myself off to the old town on one of the modern trams that criss-cross this once sleepy fishing village.

During the month of July the temperature reaches around 30c so my days were spent on one of the three beaches that Benidorm has to offer, all blue flag. Lunch was Tapas and a glass of wine. Tapas bars are everywhere and if you shop around the cost is minimal. Back to the hotel for a shower, rest, and get dressed for the evenings entertainment. Benidorm is renowned for it’s free cabaret acts that begin at about nine in the evening and carry on until the early hours. Again a good meal with free entertainment came very cheaply

After a week I decide to splash out a bit and take a weekend on Ibiza. My hosts booked the ferry and similarly priced accommodation on the island. I stayed in Sant Antoni. The night life is awesome with world famous bands and D.J’s plying their unique trade. I arrived at the height of the season. and it was in full swing. There are so many bars and nightclubs you soon lose count on how many you have been to and that’s not to mention the beach. Everyone wakes up late and in need of repair but help is on hand in the shape of the full English breakfast, and it sets you up nicely for the rest of the day

I headed back to the mainland and the same hotel where my room had been kept for me. My return coincided with the “Benidorm Low Cost Festival’ and a return to my budget confines after Ibiza. I arrived back home tanned and thoroughly relaxed. It was obvious that my Benidorm/Ibiza sojourn had done me very well and came in well within budget.
