Both very keen on fishing, my wife and I wanted a new experience, so we trawled (excuse the pun) the Internet for days until Perran Springs caught our attention and it proved to be perfect. A family run business set in 21 acres of lush countryside of Cornwall with superb amenities catering for couples and families only. We could even bring our dog, as long as it was kept on the leash, so it was ideal for us. We settled on a Caravan Holiday Home which came with all the mod cons you would expect and the area around it was was large enough to give you that little bit of privacy without feeling isolated.

Our first day, after walking the dog, we went to one of the 3 lakes on the site where we settled down for a days fishing and a picnic. The weather was perfect and it was a pleasure to be away from our hectic daily routine just relaxing in the Cornish countryside. Among other amenities there is a fishing tackle shop on the site saving you from having to leave the park for anything you might need on your fishing holiday. I had no luck on the first day however my wife managed to catch a couple of small Tench. We returned to our caravan just as the light was fading and after our evening meal we sat outside and enjoyed the balmy evening with a couple of drinks. The following morning we drove to Perranporth and blew the cobwebs away giving the dog a good run whilst admiring the skills of the surfers. That afternoon it was back to the serious business of fishing. This time we went to one of the other lakes where my luck changed when I landed a 15 pound Carp, the biggest fish I have ever caught, my my wife caught a respectably sized Bream. As the days passed, all too quickly, we made friends with the other campers also enjoying some of the best fishing to be had in Cornwall. They were a sociable lot and the atmosphere at night was just right with the chatter peppered with many of “the one that got away”stories.

The lakes are well stocked and feature of  variety of fish including Carp,Bream and Roach among others. It would have been easy to have stayed in the confines of the park rod in hand but Perran Springs is so ideally placed, near to many other attractions that Cornwall has to offer it would have been silly not to take advantage, but it was a pleasure to return “home” every evening. We stayed a total of 10 nights loving every minute of this friendly well-run destination that is a must for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Camping Cornwall is something everyone should try.
